Mental Health Support for Bodybuilding Athletes
Being a bodybuilding competitor requires working on BOTH your physique AND your mind in order to maximise your potential and be your best.
There are many mental, emotional, and social issues that can potentially get in the way of your bodybuilding and competing goals.
While you have your bodybuilding coach to guide you with your training and nutrition, they are NOT a mental health coach or psychologist.
Working with a psychologist who understands the demands of this extreme sport and what it means to you, can allow you to develop tools to manage the challenges above.
My work is for you if you are a bodybuilding competitor who wants to have an enjoyable and fulfilling journey both during comp-prep and off-season, but is struggling with:
- Self doubt and overwhelm
- Body image issues, body dysmorphia
- Maintaining your focus and drive to stick to your training and nutrition plans
- Juggling this sport with other demands or commitments in life

More specifically, my work is about helping you tackle the common challenges encountered by bodybuilding competitors, like:
- Feeling “lost” after a show and finding balance
- Maintaining your laser focus on your goal, shutting out the noise, and adhering to your plan
- Addressing an unhealthy relationship with food (impulsive eating, binging, overeating, restricting, all or nothing mentality)
- Feeling comfortable and confident in your body as you see it change in every phase of your bodybuilding or comp prep journey
- Body image issues
- Trusting the process required for growth in your improvement season
- Dealing with self-doubt, and negative thoughts getting in the way of having successful preps, reverse diets, and improvement seasons
- Improving how you manage your time and energy when there’s more to your life than competing
- Handling stress and overwhelm
- Identifying your values and living a life that is aligned with them
- Resisting comparison
- Dealing with stage fright and building confidence to be on stage
- Improving your sleep
- Managing your emotions and recovering quickly from set-backs
- Handling tricky social situations when in comp prep, and lack of support from others
- Any other blocks that might get in the way of you feeling on top of your game or seeing the results you set out to achieve
